The Deepwave/Heritage Initiative

The Deepwave/Heritage Initiative is a 30th-century Starfleet research and exploration program dedicated to the long-term study of planetary oceans and submerged environments that remain largely inaccessible to conventional starships.

Operating through a network of lightly crewed Deepwave outposts and a single fully crewed flagship vessel — the USS Heritage — the initiative focuses on deep-ocean science, environmental monitoring, first-contact research, and the investigation of anomalous phenomena beneath planetary surfaces.

Deepwave outposts serve as listening posts, sensor relays, and logistical support hubs, providing continuity and regional awareness without overshadowing active missions. Field operations, discoveries, and narrative focus remain centered on the Heritage and its crew, who are tasked with direct exploration, crisis response, and scientific engagement.

The initiative emphasizes:

• Scientific discovery over territorial presence

• Environmental stewardship and non-intrusive exploration

• Interdisciplinary collaboration between oceanography, xenobiology, engineering, and AI systems

• Long-duration missions requiring adaptability, trust, and close-knit crew dynamics

Together, Deepwave Station and the USS Heritage represent Starfleet’s commitment to understanding not just the stars above — but the vast, uncharted depths below.
